Toss: Chairman's XI elected to bat

Having won the toss, the Chairman duly elected to bat. Peter(51) with Vish(3) briefly as his opening partner, pummelled the opening attack taking 16 off the first over. Daksh(77) joined Peter and set about building an imposing total for the Chairman. Sajid(5-0-42-0) and Akshay(5-0-24-1) were initially tasked with containing the pair before Ollie(7-0-44-2) and Areeb(7-0-1-37) exerted a little more pressure with Ollie removing the fast scoring Peter with the score on 107. This was a key wicket as it did open up an end for us and Rudy(5-1-27-4) fully exploited this as well as removing the classy Daksh as he unusually mistimed a shot. Ashay(2-0-18-0) got a couple of overs in and Uma(2.2-0-8-1) removed the Chairman (after a hooligan innings) for the final wicket. The target 220 to win.

In reply, Gaurav(76) and Uma(5) opened to settle the batsman of the year contest. Gaurav was 3 runs ahead and Uma’s demise settled the contest early on. This bought Luke to the crease, fresh from his keeping duties, and Luke set about doing what Luke does very well, scoring runs. Together they took the total to 167 after 20 overs and set the scene for what was to be a relatively stress free chase. Pete Green(4-0-12-2) gave some cause for concern as he removed  both Gaurav and Suresh, but Luke and Akshay got us over the line in the 29th over with Luke finishing on 107 not out. A good fun game of cricket and great to see so many familiar faces at the club. Thanks to Rob whose umpiring skills are legendary and it is noted that no DRS referrals were necessary during either innings. He also mercilessly, but fairly, handed out performance related fines for the players at the end.

Shona, as always, provided the excellent and best teas we see during the cricket season.
